- Cockroaches — species common in UK, behaviour, lifecycle, harbourage points, best control methods (chemical & physical).
- Flies — sanitation, fly biology, trap types, insecticides, strategies to prevent fly enter/infestation, food hygiene implications.
- Ants, bees and wasps — insect identification, nest location, safe removal vs kill, protecting pollinators, legal considerations.
- Bed bugs and fleas — detection, life cycle, resistance issues, treatment planning, follow-up inspection.
- Non-chemical control methods — exclusion, proofing, environmental sanitation, traps, integrated pest management.
- Insecticide formulations and application equipment — correct formulation selection, safety, mixing & applying, protective equipment, application techniques.
- Health, Safety and Legislation — PPE, COSHH, environmental protection, regulations for public health, local authority obligations.
- Report writing and risk assessment — how to assess risk, write inspection reports, advise clients, record keeping, compliance documentation.
Course Points and Certificate
On successful completion of the exam, you’ll receive a certificate, CPD credits. Employers often look for this qualification as proof you can handle public health insect problems; helps with job applications, or supervision of insect control measures.
