Prerequisites: basic pest control experience or prior training is helpful but not mandatory. A good understanding of workplace hazards and readiness to learn about risk assessment is all you need.

Health & Safety Legislation – Overview of UK laws impacting pest control (e.g. Health & Safety at Work Act, COSHH, PPE regulations), legal responsibilities for employers & contractors.

Identifying Hazards & How to Reduce Risk – Chemical exposure, slips, trips & falls, manual handling, working in confined spaces, noise, vibration etc. Strategies and controls to mitigate risk.

Carrying Out Risk Assessments – Step-by-step risk assessment process with case examples; how to document, review, implement controls; tools/templates.

Hazards in Pest Control – Exposure to toxins, zoonoses, allergens, insect stings/bites; environmental hazards, weather, wildlife, nocturnal work.

Hazards in a General Workplace – Office hazards, visitors, trip hazards, first aid, fire safety; safe access, ladder use etc.

Reporting Incidents & Accidents – What constitutes an incident, how to report; near misses; investigation; legal / insurance implications.
Course Points and Certificate
Assessment is via a 40-minute multiple-choice exam, held at the end of the course. On passing, you will receive an RSPH Level 2 certificate. This qualification helps you meet health & safety legal requirements in pest control and supports field biologist certification.
